August President's Report

Samaritan’s Purse has granted the CCHOA $300,000 for the restoration of our Community Hall!
The paperwork was officially signed Thursday morning.
In what will be a highly transparent and fully accounted-for process, the grant will cover nearly all of the construction-related costs of bringing the Hall into the 21st century while preserving it for generations to come.
The Building Committee—Dennice Stone (chair), Mary Meehan (CCHOA treasurer), Wendy Hollady (fundraising), Vic Bain, Glen Ellington, Rob Adler, Tim Edmund, Tim Beals, and Susan Weller (CCHOA secretary)—has shepherded this process to date. Now they can dream big! As you can see from the pictures above, the building has already been successfully raised and protected from future flooding.
With funding secured, detailed planning can now move forward for the Hall’s interior reconfiguration. You’ll notice in the second picture that the old kitchen and adjoining storage area are gone and will not be replaced in their previous location. This gives us an opportunity to rethink the space and create a safer, more functional and accessible Community Hall.
We also hope the restored Hall can serve as an emergency center for Cattail in the event of future flooding, extended power outages, or other emergencies—making this project about not only preserving our past, but also protecting our community in the future.
And I’ve given the Building Committee one more assignment: start planning a huge, community-wide Grand Reopening Celebration honoring Samaritan’s Purse, our first responders, church groups, volunteers, and the many others who were here when our need was dire.
With all of this in mind, community fundraising is more important than ever. Every individual donation demonstrates to Samaritan’s Purse—which receives regular updates on our progress—that Cattail Creek has its own “boots on the ground” and remains fully invested in this project.
Just as importantly, your donations will help pay for many things not covered by the grant, including covered decks, appliances, bathroom fixtures, tables and other furnishings, kitchen items, and the many finishing touches that will make the restored Hall a safe, welcoming, and useful gathering place for the entire Cattail Creek community. (Along these lines, for example, we already have the pledged donation of Ham radio equipment - now we need a volunteer to operate it and teach others here how to. A generator would be nice too – I know many of you who stayed enjoyed showering at Wendy Lapidus’s house as her generator remained running after Helene for several weeks!!).
Here is our list of All-Star Donors to date. Donations now total $43,669. You can also donate and pay your annual dues here. All contributions above the $75 dues payment will go directly toward the restoration of the Community Hall.
Thank you all for everything you have done. It has been a crazy but fantastic year since our last Annual Meeting, when we embarked on this journey together. Look how far we have come!
Speaking of Annual Meetings, our newly revised Articles of Incorporation were approved by unanimous vote. We had a full quorum—and then some—thanks in part to your proxies and absentee ballots. Thank you for participating and helping us take this important step for the future of our community.
And the food was terrific, too (as usual)!
Have a great weekend,
