M.R. Street is an award-winning author and publisher based in Tallahassee, FL. Her WNC roots go back to the late 1930s/early 1940s, when her grandfather, Dr. Dale Hagler, built a cabin on Cold Spring Road. The cabin has been in the family ever since, and M.R. has many wonderful memories of summers spent on Cattail. She writes mostly middle-grade and young-adult fiction, and she also writes stories for younger children, poetry, and haiku. Her novels are full of magical realism which tends to overlap with her real life. On Aug. 11 at 5PM, she'll be at the Yancey County Public Library, talking about mountain magic and reading from several of her novels that are set in fictional towns based on the Cattail Creek/Pensacola/Burnsville area. In 2008, M.R. established her indie publishing company, Turtle Cove Press, to provide quality literature for young readers. She enjoys reading, writing, photography, making art, and visiting her family’s cabin on Cattail Mountain. Visit her online at turtlecovepress.com.
